Route Guidance System

We use our geofencing system to alert the drivers of routes that they should avoid / adhere to. We get this information from three main sources ;

  • Public Instruction
  • Nolan’s Experience
  • Customer Instruction

Public Instruction

We receive regular suggestions from the public by phone, e-mail or our Suggestion Box facility on our website. We receive a number of suggestions on the topic of route avoidance in relation to the following areas;

  • Historical & Environmental Routes. Avoiding certain Villages, places of natural beauty, old bridges etc.
  • Residential Issues.

Nolan’s Experience

There are a number of areas we have learned to avoid over the last few years, through NolanTransport.com’s In-House experience.

Operational Day to Day Workings

Our operators are constantly on the lookout for routes that either need to be avoided or those that are most efficient for our drivers.

Drivers

Drivers are our main source of information as they can observe in their day to day work what areas cause problems for security issues and driving obstacles.

Security Intel

Nolan is provided with security intel from such sources as the local law enforcements along with insurance companies

Corrective Actions

We add all of this intel to our geofencing system so that we can automatically send an alert to the driver when they enter/leave the relevant area. This message is not only sent to the driver but also a relevant member of office staff who will re-alert the driver and alert a manager if need.

Customer Instruction

General customer instructions (Standard Operating Procedures) are automatically given to the driver as soon as they are assigned a load for that company.
These can include;

  • Customer Site Instruction
    • The area suited or not for loading/unloading
    • A contact person that needs to be notified of a collection/delivery upon arrival.
  • Route Avoidance For Security Issues
    • The preferred Route to the Company.
    • No Unnecessary Driver Breaks.
    • Driver must not leave the load unattended.
  • The Equipment Needed
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – High Vis vest, safety boots etc.
    • Equipment required for load – Ratchet Straps, Spring or Ratchet bars etc.
    • Drivers loading instructions.

Security & Geofencing

The security of your load is of the highest importance to us. We have a system in place that can alert a driver and a member of the office staff that the driver is entering an area where the security of your product may be compromised.

  • All our Trucks are Independently Satellite Tracked so we can tell where any of our trucks are at any one time.
  • With this information we can use a sophisticated geofencing system that alerts a driver as soon as he enters an area with a security risk.
  • It is proactive in that when the driver enters this area a message is not only sent to the driver but also a relevant member of office staff who will re-alert the driver and alert a manager if need.

We use our geofencing system to alert the drivers of issues such as;

  • There is a weight restriction on this road.
  • Problem with high trailers in this area. There are low bridges.
  • Caution high risk of trailer damage and theft.
  • High risk of illegal Immigrants attempting to access trucks in this area.
